Times Publishing Company, publisher of the Tampa Bay Times, announced the hiring of Bala Sundaramoorthy as its new president and chief operating officer to replace Joe DeLuca, president, who will retire on Oct. 1.

Sundaramoorthy, 52, comes from Cox Enterprises where he most recently served as general manager of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and CoxNext, a digital marketing agency. With an extensive technology and finance background, he is highly regarded for finding new revenue streams, growing and engaging audiences and successfully executing digital-first strategies in publishing.

“Bala is an accomplished media executive whose diverse experience across finance, technology, product innovation and subscriber growth will lead us into the future,” said Conan Gallaty, the Times' chairman and CEO. “He is committed to delivering products that engage our readers in innovative ways.”

Joe DeLuca

DeLuca, 66, joined the Times in 2001 and has been the architect of transformational business strategies for Times Publishing Company. DeLuca was pivotal in the acquisition of the Tampa Tribune, served as publisher of tbt* and lobbied to strengthen policies to protect the free press throughout the state of Florida. He was recently inducted into the Florida Press Association’s Hall of Fame.

“Joe’s retirement marks the end of an era at the Times,” Gallaty said. “His decades of dedication have helped us remain a force in regional journalism.”
