The Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association is delighted to announce that John Derr has joined the PNA/MANSI Media team as director of sales and strategic partnerships. In this dual capacity, he works to increase revenue and discover new sources of income for member news organizations.

He began his newspaper career at Montgomery Media in 1989 and remained there until 2000. From 2000 to 2018, he worked for LNP | LancasterOnline, the last eight years as vice president of sales and marketing. From 2018 until 2023, Derr was the publisher of the Chestnut Hill Local in Philadelphia.

"As I begin my new position at PNA/MANSI Media, I feel energized and optimistic about the future of local news,” Derr said. “My role will allow me to make a real difference for member news organizations by helping increase their revenue and forging partnerships to open up new income sources. I know the work will be challenging, but I also know that with dedication and creativity, we can find success. I look forward to rolling up my sleeves, building relationships and doing all I can to secure a bright tomorrow for local journalism.’’

Derr earned a B.A. degree in communications from Grove City College in Pennsylvania. In his free time, he enjoys rooting for the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia Eagles. He and his wife, Sue, have four children and reside in Lancaster. He is the author of the novel, “Another Christmas Carol,” a modern sequel to the Charles Dickens classic, set in Pennsylvania.
