Portland, OR – Dr. Robert B. Pamplin Jr. has sold Pamplin Media Group (PMG) to Carpenter Media Group (CMG), according to John Cribb, Cribb, Cope & Potts, who represented Dr. Pamplin in the transaction. The sale was closed effective June 1. Terms were not disclosed.

The transaction includes the following Oregon publications: The (Canby) Herald-Pioneer, Sandy Post, Clackamas Review, Sherwood Gazette, Columbia County Spotlight, Southwest (Portland) Community Connection, Estacada News, The (Portland) Bee, The (Forest Grove) News-Times, The (Washington County) Times,  Gresham Outlook, West Linn Tidings, Lake Oswego Review, Wilsonville Spokesman, Madras Pioneer, Woodburn Independent, Newberg Graphic, Beaverton Valley Times, Oregon City News, Business Tribune, Portland Tribune, Your Oregon News and the Prineville Central Oregonian.

“After 25 years operating Oregon’s largest newspaper group, we made the decision to sell the company,” said Pamplin. “Due to age and health reasons, it made sense to pass the company on to someone else who will carry on the tradition of balanced journalism, the old-fashioned way,” Pamplin said.

Pamplin Media Group President J. Brian Monihan expressed appreciation for the support he’s received from the Pamplin family. He will continue to lead the media company under Carpenter as regional publisher.

“Our staff and the communities we serve owe Bob Pamplin and his family our sincere thanks and gratitude for what they have done to preserve community journalism in Oregon,” said Monihan. “We thank Bob for his ownership and guidance over the years, and are also excited for the new leadership Carpenter Media Group represents.”

”We are pleased to join this exceptional team of journalists, marketing and newspaper people in Oregon,” said Todd Carpenter, chairman of CMG. “We share their high standards and business values, understand the importance of delivering high-quality journalism and marketing services to these communities and will work hard to support them in their efforts.”

Pamplin and Pamplin Media Group were represented by John Cribb of Cribb, Cope & Potts. CCP is a leading merger and acquisition firm with offices in Montana, California and Arkansas.
