Mike Kellogg named News & Eagle publisher in Oklahoma

Posted

Veteran newspaper executive Mike Kellogg is returning to Oklahoma as publisher of the Enid News & Eagle.

Kellogg is replacing longtime publisher Jeff Funk, who is retiring after 47 years in the newspaper industry. Funk had been editor or publisher of the News & Eagle since 2001, retiring in 2021 but returning to the role on a temporary basis last summer. Funk will remain on the newspaper’s editorial board.

Kellogg also will serve as publisher of the Stillwater News Press, a role he held from 1997 to 2008. Both newspapers are part of a group of Oklahoma newspapers owned by CNHI.

“Mike’s passion and dedication toward community newspapers will be a great asset to the already talented teams in Enid and Stillwater,” said Terry Connor, a CNHI regional executive.

Kellogg’s newspaper career began in 1990 when he was hired to be the advertising manager at the Muskogee Phoenix. Kellogg then spent three years as the director of advertising for the Niagara Gazette in Niagara Falls, New York, before joining CNHI as Stillwater’s publisher.

Kellogg recently was the chief revenue officer at Indij Public Media, parent company of Indian County Today, and before that spent more than six years as the director of marketing communications for the Navajo Nation Gaming Enterprise.

Kellogg has three children, Joshua, Gabrielle and Jillian. Joshua and Gabrielle are graduates of Stillwater High School.

“I loved our time in Oklahoma,” Kellogg said. “Newspapers play an integral role in any community and are now information centers via newspaper, internet and mobile platforms. I’ve met our staffs and they are wonderful. We’ll enjoy our time together.”

Kellogg was raised in Fort Defiance, Arizona. He has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from New Mexico State University. Kellogg completed the Advanced Executive program through Northwestern University’s graduate school. He has been president and treasurer of the Indigenous Journalists Association.
