Argus Leader, Gannett file to drop lawsuit over access to Sioux Falls public notices

The Argus Leader and its parent company, Gannett, have filed to drop a lawsuit that could have reinstated them as the legal newspaper for the City of Sioux Falls (South Dakota).

The Dakota Scout, a weekly printed newspaper founded in 2022 by two former Argus Leader reporters, will continue to serve as the community’s official news outlet for legal notices until June 30, 2025, when the Argus Leader will have the opportunity to re-bid for the spot as the city’s legal newspaper.

“Although we disagree with the Judge’s statutory interpretation, we see no efficient way to appeal that decision and are discontinuing our legal action at this time,” read a statement on Monday from Gannett / USA TODAY.
