Announcement from Matt Murray, Interim Executive Editor, Liz Seymour, Deputy Managing Editor, Krissah Thompson, Managing Editor, Matea Gold, Managing Editor and Scott Vance, Managing Editor:

We are pleased to announce changes to the management of The Post’s Copy Desk, with Brian Cleveland taking on a new role as the multiplatform editing chief.

Brian will lead a team of 49 copy editors who are responsible for editing the majority of the newsroom’s content — including news stories and features, newsletters and alerts — as well as transmitting stories for our News Service. During Brian’s 12 years at The Post, he has pushed the Copy Desk to adopt streamlined workflows and technology and has helped update the Stylebook. He is a compassionate and empathetic leader.

Brian is terrific at finding efficiencies that make other people’s work lives easier. He has been integral to ongoing discussions about workflow and production changes because of his strong relationships throughout the newsroom.

Before coming to The Post, Brian was the copy desk chief at the Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk and a copy editor at the Duluth News Tribune in Minnesota. He graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in journalism.
