We are excited to welcome Sangsuk Sylvia Kang and Zuzanna Piekarska to the Photo desk!

Sangsuk Sylvia Kang is joining the Photo desk as staff editor on the International desk in New York. In this role Sylvia will conceptualize, assign and edit a wide array of news and feature photographs and video for The Times’s International report, with a focus on innovative digital story forms and presentations. She will also be responsible for the International weekend print section.

Originally from Seoul and based in New York City, Sylvia is a graduate of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. Most recently, she was a photo editor at Time magazine focusing on international stories. She has served as a juror for World Press Photo Contest, the National Press Photographers Association’s Best of Photojournalism Competition, and the Alexia Grant, among others.

We are also delighted to announce that Zuzanna Piekarska has joined the Photo desk as a staff editor on our breaking news hub in Seoul, working on Express and Live coverage, as well as the overall digital presentation of the news report in the Asia day.

Many of us, particularly on international, the digital team and the Asia print hub, are well acquainted with Zuzanna’s work as an excellent photo editor and wonderful colleague, having worked with her over the last two years. She has regularly contributed to some of our most challenging storylines, including the war in Ukraine and the Mideast crisis. Previously, Zuzanna worked on the Reuters global picture desk, where she was lead editor, assigning and managing coverage of major events from NATO and G20 summits to protest movements around the world. She managed the live-editing of major news events, including multiple Olympics and awards shows, and oversaw a globally distributed team of editors. Before joining Reuters, Zuzanna worked at the Polish Press Agency, arranging photo coverage and editing news in Poland. This experience will make Zuzanna an excellent addition to our breaking news hub in Seoul, and to the wider Live, Express and Home team operations.

Please join us in welcoming Sylvia and Zuzanna to The Times.
