The New York Times announces a promotion for Mathew Brownstein

Posted

We’re thrilled to announce that Mathew Brownstein is being promoted to senior news assistant, and will be fully embedded with our Standards team.

As a floater in Newsroom Operations, Mathew is a valued member of our staff and has greatly contributed to a number of desks and projects over the years, including the International desk, Metro, A2/A3 and the Contests team, to name but a few. We’re excited for him to take on this new challenge in a job that closely aligns with his passions and interests.

“The newsroom knowledge Mathew has gained from working on multiple desks made him the perfect candidate for a role that will require him to communicate with readers and with editors across desks,” Rogene Jacquette writes. “In his stints filling in for our past news assistant, Mathew showed the initiative and the collegial demeanor that the Standards team has come to rely on. He’s smart and efficient and thoughtful in tackling a continuing stream of requests from readers.”

Mathew, who holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and TV/video from Iona University, lives in New Jersey with his wife, Jessica. He is a cautiously optimistic Mets fan who yearns for a championship in Queens.

Please congratulate him on this well-deserved promotion.
