The New York Times: Alice Callahan is joining Well

Posted

For many months, we’ve been searching for a meticulous health reporter to cover a topic so deceptively challenging that even the most skilled science journalists get disoriented by it: nutrition. We wanted someone who understood how unreliable, imprecise and often biased nutrition science can be, and who could approach the beat not only with skepticism, but also with empathy and care. We also wanted someone who could deliver on stories our readers are endlessly hungry for — no pun intended. We have found that person in Alice Callahan.

Alice has spent the past 11 years as an independent science journalist covering nutrition and health, with several of those years as a regular contributor to Well. She has already generated some of our most salient and well-read stories, from straightforward service and news pieces to enterprise and profiles. And she comes well armed with a reliable stable of expert sources.

What really sets Alice apart, though, is her expertise. She has a Ph.D. in nutritional biology from the University of California, Davis, and a B.S. in animal science from Cornell University.

Her first day is today. Please join us in welcoming her to The Times.
