Pittsburgh Community Broadcasting Corporation, operator of public media outlets WESA-FM and WYEP-FM in Pittsburgh, announced on Sept. 1 that it has entered into an agreement to purchase WCGF-TM in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania.
The company stated its intention, once the transaction is complete, to use WCGF-FM to extend its current 24-hour daily WESA news programming to reach new listeners in Lawrence, Beaver and Butler counties.
“When we became aware that the station was up for sale, we recognized that it serves an area where many residents do not have reliable over-the-air access to a fulltime broadcast news service like WESA,” said Terry O’Reilly, president and chief executive officer of Pittsburgh Community Broadcasting.
