Announcement from Director of Newsroom Talent & Community Michelle Jaconi and Head of Audience Strategy and Growth Erika Allen:

We are thrilled to announce that Michael Blackmon will become The Post’s comments editor. Michael will serve as an advocate for our most engaged readers and will work to build trust and habits around Post journalism.

In this role, Michael will deepen our relationship with some of our most dedicated subscribers by inviting their input — and responding to their ideas. Michael will foster and grow the community around our newsroom with an eye on welcoming new audiences.

Michael’s previous experience as a reporter and community editor at BuzzFeed will inform his work in this role.

Before joining The Post, Michael often wrote about pop culture,  entertainment  and burgeoning lifestyle trends. From documenting Jane Fonda’s latest act as a climate activist, to unearthing a deeper meaning behind some of the internet’s most enduring images and memes, to shining a light on the toxicity of new age digital platforms, the throughline of Michael’s most meaningful and impactful work has been leading with empathy and genuine curiosity to foster connection.

Michael graduated from the University of North Carolina’s School of Media and Journalism with a degree in broadcast journalism. Michael is a staunch Mariah Carey aficionado and an avid karaoke lover. Michael is relocating to Washington, D.C., for this role and is looking forward to channeling his inner Olivia Pope as he embarks on a new beginning in the nation’s capital.
