Tom Andrews, publisher of the Picayune Item and the weekly Poplarville Democrat, is retiring Tuesday after 32 years with the newspapers.

No successor has been named.

Andrews joined the Picayune Item's advertising department in July 1978 and became advertising director two months later. He's been publisher of the two newspapers in April 2000.

The newspapers are owned by Community Newspaper Holdings Inc.

Andrews says the highlights of his career in Picayune were a new press, a new office and production facility and guiding the newspapers through the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

He was president of the Mississippi Press Association in 2007-08.

CNHI owns three other Mississippi newspapers: the Laurel-Leader Call and The Meridian Star, which are dailies; and the Star-Herald, a weekly in Kosciusko.
