Announcement from Climate and Environment Editor Zachary Goldfarb, Climate and Environment Deputy Editor Juliet Eilperin and Climate Solutions Editor Dayana Sarkisova:

We are delighted to announce that Allyson Chiu will join the Climate & Environment department as a Climate Solutions reporter, helming our coverage of the people and organizations working to address climate change and other environmental issues.

In this role, Allyson will explore the most innovative work being done to avert catastrophe and help readers understand what they can do in their own lives to protect the planet.

Allyson came to The Post as a Local intern in January 2018, then joined the Morning Mix team later that year. After spending more than two years on the overnight team — during which she produced a variety of viral stories that covered politics, sports, pop culture, science and marine mammals — Allyson moved to Features to become The Post’s first full-time wellness reporter in August 2020.

Allyson played an integral part in guiding Post readers through the confusion of pandemic life and the ever-shifting “new normal” with a mix of news, service journalism and deeply reported features about the pandemic as well as other areas of wellness. One of her most-read service pieces to date surprisingly wasn’t related to the coronavirus, but answered the simple question of how to shower.

Throughout her time at The Post, Allyson has demonstrated a continued interest in reporting on the environment and climate change, most recently writing a story about the evidence linking air pollution exposure to COVID-19 risks.

Allyson was born and raised in Guam. She graduated from Northwestern in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. Having spent most of her life on an island, she loves the beach and all ocean-related activities, including scuba diving, free diving and paddleboarding. You can also always count her in for a pickup game of volleyball or a board game night.

Please join us in congratulating Allyson on her new role. She begins July 11.
