The Western Classified Advertising Association recently welcomed Nate Rodriguez, director of multimedia advertising and training at The Ventura County (Calif.) Star, as its new president and board of directors at the 62nd Annual WCAA Conference in Las Vegas, Nev. Current president Bill Cummings will be stepping down.

“I am encouraged with Nate taking the leadership of WCAA as president,” Cummings said. “He is creative, thoughtful and has a very defined vision for the people that depend on the WCAA.”

Rodriguez’s career started at The Commercial Dispatch in Columbus, Miss., where he was repeatedly recognized by the Mississippi Press Association. His work at the Star received national recognition for mobile innovation and he was named the 2011 Scripps Sales Leadership Achiever. Rodriguez plans to use his expertise in multimedia advertising and online revenue generation to adapt the focus of the WCAA to fit the ever-changing needs of the industry.

Other WCAA board changes include Cindy Hefley (Wick Communications) is stepping into the role of first vice president; Carla Royter (U-T San Diego) is taking over as second vice president; Lana Johnson (Johnson Media Group) will continue her role as secretary; and Cummings will be the treasurer. Leslie Aubé Nagy (Clovis Media Inc.) will continue to serve on the board of directors, along with new members Shannon Zamora (Los Angeles Newspaper Group), Deitra Kenoly (The Record/Dow Jones Local Media), Beatrix Agrios (Glacier Media Group) and Michael Mayer (Dallas Morning News).
