SANTA ANA, CALIF. – Nov. 29, 2012 – The Orange County Register is
putting its feet on the accelerator when it comes to satisfying Orange
County's fascination with cars with today’s launch of Wheels, a new
Friday section that focuses on the coolest rides, events, news and
people connected to Orange County’s vibrant car culture.
The highly designed, 10-page section includes prominent photographs
and graphics, and marks the debut of the Register’s new automotive
critic, Susan Carpenter. The new Wheels section replaces the Register’s
former Friday Cars section, and is expanding both the volume and depth
of coverage to motorcycles and other vehicles.
"If a new newspaper section could sound like an exploding funny car
and smell like racing fuel, Wheels would," said Andre Mouchard, team
leader and editor of the Wheels section. "Our aim is to create a fun,
engaging, must-read resource for gearheads, riders, collectors and
prospective buyers."
The inaugural Nov. 30 section includes stories about some of the
exciting and innovative metal debuting at this week's L.A. Auto Show, a
profile of muscle car innovator Steve Saleen and a review of the
ultimate Southern California car: the newest convertible Volkswagen
Beetle.
The section will be printed on top-quality newsprint stock to
highlight the visual richness of photography and design. It includes
premium ad positions on the first three pages, and the Register's
classified ads are also found within the section.
