Harlingen, Texas—AIM Media Texas, LLC has appointed Marci Caltabiano-Ponce as editor at the Valley Morning Star.

Caltabiano-Ponce is a 30-year veteran of editorial staffs at the Rio Grande Valley daily newspapers and she has held several key editor and leadership positions at The Monitor in McAllen, The Brownsville Herald, and the Valley Morning Star.

For the last four years, Caltabiano-Ponce has served as editor of The Brownsville Herald, and since mid-2011, she has also served as editor of the Valley Morning Star. This new appointment provides her the opportunity to focus all of her time and efforts in Harlingen and the surrounding communities.

Earlier in her career and during over 25 years at The Monitor, she served in a number of editor positions including features editor, city editor, assistant managing editor, and then managing editor. She also served a short tenure as editor of La Frontera, a Spanish-language daily that operated in Hidalgo County under The Monitor's operations.

During her tenure in these editorial management positions at the Valley daily newspapers, Caltabiano-Ponce has overseen a number of special reporting projects, series, and in-depth articles that have covered a wide range of community life, and social and political issues in the region.

Caltabiano-Ponce's leadership roles in these key reporting projects has resulted in a number of awards from the Texas APME organization which recognizes state newspapers for excellence in journalism. She has also played lead roles in newspaper redesigns and product changes that have improved all three Valley daily newspapers.
