CHICAGO -- Newspaper publishers sought to recapture some of their swagger at this week’s annual meeting of the Inland Press Association, even as they face an uncertain fallout from the U.S. Postal Commission’s negotiated service agreement with Valassis.

To judge from their revenue predictions and shared stories, this group of mostly small- to medium-sized publishers may have found themselves walking with a cautious, if more sure-footed, gait instead.
